Day 14 - Last Day
Wednesday 3rd September 2008 10:01 PM
View from Hotel room
Steve writes:
Well, this is our last day in LA before flying home tomorrow. We started our day by grabbing a quick breakfast and then headed off for Paul & Francy's office where the intercessors meet every week.
They asked Vel and I to share the word - what an awesome morning it was! On arrival we got out of our car to the sound of awesome worship and prayer.
At the end of the meeting, they asked us to pray for the intercessors - this was our absolute pleasure as we saw God doing great things in the lives of these wonderful, faithful servants!
After lunch, we then came back to the Hotel and Vel was offered a complimentary Spa by the hotel - she accepted and chose the 'Hot Stones' massage'.
Vel writes:
'This was the most relaxing, state-of -the-art spa that I have ever had. The service, ambience, changing room was typical of this type of resort. This has been the most awesome holiday
experience. Though I had an accident, we have not been robbed of this God given opportunity.'
Esther writes:
'We had a really great ending to our holiday in the pool and Jacuzzi and we prayed and gave thanks to God for giving us
a wonderful holiday. We pray that God gives us a safe journey back home to England.'
Lisha writes:
'Tonight was our last night to enjoy this luxurious hotel. As soon as we arrived back from dinner, with excitement we went straight down to the pool to catch the last hour of swimming
before it closed at 10.00pm'
'All four of us ended up in the Jacuzzi and we spent time praying and giving God thanks for this opportunity and I hope that we will have a lot to bring back to our local church from this experience. I do not want to leave LA, but I am missing everyone.'
Steve writes:
'The whole team took us out for an evening meal at a wonderful Chinese Restaurant, and then we quickly went to a shoe shop to get Velisha the promised shoes - another high-heeled pair of shoes.'
'We arrived back at our hotel and decided to have our final swim, as the pool would be open until 10.00pm. Once again, when we arrived at the outdoor pool, there was nobody else using the facilities, so we had the entire pool and Jacuzzi to ourselves - wow!'
'Vel and I used this time to reflect on what has been an awesome holiday but equally a great time serving our Chinese brothers and sisters. This holiday really sums up our lives. 'Give and it shall be given back to you, pressed down, shaken together and overflowing.'
'We so thank God for Paul and Francy and the whole 'Melody of My H
eart' team! God has brought some incredible people into our lives for this particular season.'
'To end our holiday, it was a beautiful experience just looking up into the quiet sky and loudly giving God thanks for this wonderful time in LA, USA.'
'We invited the girls to offer up thanksgiving prayers and then Vel and I gave God thanks for the end, and yet, what seems to be like the beginning of a new season for the Thompsons.'

Day 13
Tuesday 2nd September 2008 10:20 PM
This as a quiet day as Wendy, our now great friend took the girls out for the day, so that Velveta could rest. I also took this opportunity to rest and look after Vel.
Wendy gave our girls a most awesome day! (Thanks Wendy!!). The girls came back with some wonderful gifts for Vel and I.
The hotel then called and said they wanted to offer the entire family a complimentary meal on the hotel.
So, even though Vel was not feeling great, when the girls returned, she braved it and we all got dressed and went down to the restaurant.
On route to the restaurant, we met one of the actors who happened to be one of the leading actors in 'The Unit' and had a good chat with him - what a nice guy - can't remember his name though
And.... what an awesome meal - the best 'restaurant meal' in a long time! I mean the cuisine and wine was outstanding and we had a wonderful family time laughing so much at pretty much anything there was to laugh about!

Day 12 -Vel has accident!
Monday 1st September 2008 10:50 PM
Well today, just after swimming in the outside pool, Vel had an unfortunate slip in the bath because there was no suction mat.
She slipped and gushed the side of her head on the bathtub and a nasty cut was created, literally 5mm away from her eyes.
We had to rush her to a private hospital where a doctor whom, strangely, I met on a previous Chinese project saw and treated her.
Thank God she is fine and will not need any stitches. For more information, please click here

Day 12
Monday 1st September 2008 7:35 PM
Well today we arrived at the Pacific Palms Resort, a beautiful hotel where we will be staying for the next four days.
The night before, we took a stroll through the grounds of the resort - too beautiful for a camera to capture. But as we walked around we were getting excited about the next four days.
On arrival, we settled in and chilled for a while then headed down for a night swim and Jacuzzi - Awesome! We pretty much had the whole pool and Jacuzzi to ourselves.
The Jacuzzi was so hot; it was like taking a hot bath whilst gazing up at the open skies.
Lisha says:
'Tonight was fun! The scenery was great and I loved swimming at nightime because there were hardly anyone in the pool and the view was amazing! I really enjoyed the Jacuzzi which was hot and steamy and looked over the LA city lights!'
Esther says:
'The view was nice when we went swimming. I loved the waterfalls and the swimming pool was huge. I could not swim in the deep end because the water was too deep for me. I really enjoyed swimming with my sister, Velisha and my mum and dad.'
'After swimming I really enjoyed running on the treadmill with my day. Dad allowed me to'
'We made the most of the night as we heard the pool would be closed the next day as there would be filming of a TV series - The Unit!' Says Steve.

In general, this was a great start to what was going to be a challenging night with Vel's accident!

Day 11
Sunday 31st August 2008 5:30 PM
Vel writes:
We went to church today and spent time with our friends at the Chinese church. Today happened to be a retreat so quite a few churches came together. The part that I understood is when Steve spoke ☺ The service was great!
After one of the church sessions, Steve met with his Chinese clients as they talked through the many exciting projects ahead - that's how it always works for us - all our projects are initially based on the forming of solid relationships!
On the way to a Korean restaurant for lunch, we stopped by a shop to pick up Steve's tailored suits! They are fantastic - unlike the ladies - no fashion show here!
Steve writes:
Today is our last day at this accommodation as we are heading off tomorrow to a resort! We are so looking forward to this resort!
We had a great time at the Korean restaurant where our host Paul and Francy showed us how to 'properly' use chopsticks!
The food was awesome as was the company! As we have been to Korean quite a few times, this meal brought back many fond meomories!
We are so honoured to have met our clients who have quickly become our good friends - what special people!
