Final Day - Live recording
Sunday 21st September 2008 11:58 PM
Tonight was absolutely awesome! I could not have hoped for a better live recording. The choir and the congregation sang their hearts out; I literally thought the roof was going to lift off!
The networking that Pastor Paul and Francy have done is outstanding. Tonight, we had over 25 different Chinese churches represented - what a milestone in the ministry!
The evening opened with Pastor Paul & Francy's Pastor, as well as the host pastor, welcoming the folks and leading a time of worship. (By the way, it is great seeing the Pastors leading the worship!!).
We made sure our lead vocalist were on stage supporting Francy and what a great job they did! (I am really going to miss these guys!).
Wendy operated the overheads with ease as Jonathan made sure that the live recorded was broadcasted to the many Chinese communities throughout the world - AWESOME!! (I must stop saying that word).
Ha-ha - in true Chinese style, during the break they served Chinese food - yummy! I could have almost skipped the second half and continued eating - only joking! (Well partially). It was great seeing the board display detailing MOMH activities. This ministry is awesome (there I go again!). I am so thankful that God has given me this particular assignment!
Francy was a little nervous to begin with(Quite understandable), though nobody would have known. She remained calm throughout the entire recording hardly missing a cue - I have no doubt that the success of the evening was due to the many prayers of the intercessors.
From the smallest to the largest aspect, everything ran smoothly! I mentioned to the folks that this must have been the most 'stress-less' live recording I have ever done.
To end this great evening, we all went out to a Sea-Food Restaurant where we were given a private room - we ate, celebrated and had a great time - however, by that time I could hear many voices in different languages in my head - saying it was time to go to bed!
Anyhow, I have a wonderful wife and children to go home to, so after a debriefing meeting in the morning, I will be back on the plane on route to UK! (Straight to the City Gates Office for our weekly staff meeting!) Really missing these guys too!

Day 6
Saturday 20th September 2008 10:16 PM
This really has truly been the most awesome day! The recording of the choir! We all arrived at Paul & Fancy's church (well actually not their church - the church where they attend) at 10.00 and on arrival you could hear the
sound of music playing in the background as the choir members arrived. Some as far as two hours drive.
We organised for the choir members to move around getting to know each other. You could sense that this was going to be a great day! In particular it was great meeting the choir from Pasadena (left). (We were able to pray and bless them before they departed.
Francy organised for the team to get into small groups to pray - beautiful atmosphere! After the briefing and Pastor Paul and I sharing a word with the team, we launched into what was destined to be a successful day.
Today I was working with a new engineer, Long (Right) is his name and he is from Vietnam! We had a few scary moments with the different formatted drives and different version of Protools (recording software).
I am sure Long will never forget this session. First of all we were surprised that the Mac formatted drive worked on the PC and secondly, that all files could be read.
During the day, we had a children's' choir join us. I was not sure how this would turn out, but mentioned to Francy that I really would love to have children's voice on one
of the songs.
Well, Francy wasted no time at all, but organised a children's choir, pretty much 'over night'. They have to be the cutest Chinese children I have ever seen and they did so well. (Jessica, one of the backing vocalists, brought in her two daughters, as did Alan (also backing vocalist - bringing in his sons!
During the break, all the men created a massage line - I could not help but join this line. Before knowing what was happening, I was 'gently' pushed to the front of the line.
The men then told me to sit down and they introduced me to someone who actually does massages professionally, I saw his hands disappear as they sunk deep into my shoulders and back!
A friend's daughter, Melissa who is studying in USA has been spending a few days with us. I invited the masseuse to massage her back. By looking at Melissa's face, you will she how her face articulates the pain I felt, but tried to hide it best I could - with all these strong Chinese men watching!
Once again, I have met some new Chinese brothers and sisters!
What a day, filled with hard work, laughter, worship and a sense of destiny!
Our plan was to start the Choir recording at 10.00an until 6.30pm. We finished at 6.32pm. The choir was so much fun to work with. The presence of God and the pure act of worship sustained us throughout the day - as well as the familiar intercessors' serving hands and prayers.
Now tomorrow, we anticipate the actual live recording!

Day 5
Friday 19th September 2008 10:38 PM
This was another fantastic day recording lead vocals. What an awesome team to work with! Today we had SO MUCH FUN, though I had to really work the singers.
It was amazing, Denny, who 'had' a cold before we prayed sounded amazing (miracle), you would not believe he had a cold, his voice was crystal clear! After the first song, his wife asked, '…. Has he finished already..?' Alright then!
After recording, we dashed off to a choir rehearsal (50 member choir). Check this out! Whist rehearsing tonight, they had a satellite connection to San Diego - where the other part of the choir were rehearsing simultaneously with the choir in Hacienda Heights. They will join us tomorrow.
They choir sounds great - I am anticipating the choir recording tomorrow.
At the end of rehearsal we celebrated Pastor Paul's birthday! He did need reminding that it was his birthday - no kidding! The birthday cake was awesome!

Day 4
Thursday 18th September 2008 10:52 PM
Well today, we were back in the first studio recording more lead vocals. There was one wrong line in one of the songs so we had to get all the previous backing vocals, except for a few, back in to fix this!
But, what a wonderful possibility for me to see some of my new 'Chinese friends' again. Love these guys loads! We have had so much fun!
We were able to fix more than just one vocal line adding some extra parts which has really aided the recording.

Day 3
Wednesday 17th September 2008 10:24 AM
Now this has to be one of the best days of recording in many, many years (I know I sound old). We headed over to a large studio (Firehouse Recording Studio) in Pasadena to record the string orchestra.
This was my first time recording at this particular studio. They gave us the main studio and my string conductor was able to negotiate a very good price (thanks Mark - what a cool dude as well)!
We were not able to take pictures of the 'top players' in LA for legal reasons, but we really could see God's favour throughout the entire recording. What an awesome string sound! I usually record my strings in Prague, so this was the first time recording Strings in USA. Good decision!
The two engineers (pictured above) were incredibly professional.
One of the highlights was being able to Skype some of the session to the City Gates Worship team rehearsal - straight unto the big screen (love you guys and miss you!). Vel, who was leading the rehearsal, was able to meet the engineers in the studio and I was able to introduce the string players to our team. Now, how cool was that!

Day 2
Tuesday 16th September 2008 10:35 PM
This recording phase is 'full on'. After having a good nig
ht rest, the day started with a rehearsal with the singers, rehearsing at Melody Of My Heart's office. The singers sound great! I sense this is going to be a great recording phase!
Unfortunately, Denny (pictured right), one of the singers, has a really bad cold, but once again in the true MOMH style, after calling for the intercessors, we invited the intercessory team to spend some time praying for him. In God we trust!
We got through the songs in no time at all, and then headed of for the studio.
This first day of recording has gone incredibly well! It
has once again dawned on me that this is a crucial recording for the Chinese community and a very special season for MOMH. Penny (pictured right), whom I worked with on my first Chinese recording, was the first to sing her solo - what an Angel of a voice and what humour!
Mickey (pictured left) was one of the other singers, who also has a great voice and a passionate heart for worship. These singers have had quite a lot of experience, being some of the top singers from Taiwan, but their heart for worship was so obvious.
I was so pleased to see, once again, my good friend, Allan! (Don't tell him we have given him a new 'nickname' - T-Jones!
